Mills College is pleased to announce a $100,000 two-year grant from JPMorgan Chase & Co. in support of the Ascend 2020 Bay Area collaborative which will provide a full continuum of capital and technical assistance to start and scale high-impact small businesses owned by women and people of color in the Bay Area.
The grant will provide experiential learning and employment opportunities for graduate business students at the Mills College Lorry I. Lokey School of Business and Public Policy, as well as funding applied research conducted by faculty-student teams.
The Ascend 2020 Bay Area collaborative is a partnership between Mills and two local nonprofit organizations. Working Solutions provides micro entrepreneurs with the access to capital and resources they need to start or grow successful businesses, strengthen the local economy, create jobs, and build strong communities. ICA Fund Good Jobs educates, accelerates, and invests in high-growth small businesses in order to create accessible good jobs that lead to equitable communities for all.
Ascend 2020 will promote local support ecosystems for neighborhood-based inner-city and minority-owned businesses in Atlanta, Chicago, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle by linking business schools, business service-providing organizations and CDFIs.
